Garage Door Hinges
While garage door hinges probably aren’t the most trendy and popular topic of conversation in your home, if they have come up at all recently you’re probably in need of some new ones, or are looking to try to find out more information about them. If that is the case in any way, you’re in the right place.
For those that don’t know, garage door hinges are what you attach your garage door to so that it can open as it’s supposed to. This usually means the bottom opening up and folding round until the door is horizontal (from a vertical starting point). Because of this, it’s important to have garage door hinges that are strong enough for the weight of the door they are holding, as well as ones that are well made so that they can last over time and stay flexible (you may need to oil them for this). Ideally, you want to only purchase garage door hinges that feel smooth and easy to open, while at the same time closing firm and not feeling flimsy (like it might open or close on its own).
Electronic garage door openers can do this for you automatically, and are popular in the USA. These are operated either by pressing a button attached to them or by using a remote control (which you can store in your car if you want to open it as you’re coming up the drive).
Ordinarily garage doors don’t actually weigh that much, since they are made from thin metals like steel or aluminium. This means that their hinges often don’t need to be that strong either, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry!
Most garage door hinges are actually not strong enough for the doors that they are made for. This doesn’t mean that most garage door hinges aren’t strong enough, just that they are matched to the wrong door. This is a common problem, but one that can easily be avoided with a little bit of homework and careful selection of your garage door hardware.
The best place to buy garage door hinges (and other garage door hardware) today is at a large DIY store such as Home Depot. Failing that, you could always call the company that you bought your garage door from and see if they have any offer on that you might fancy.
